Sofa protector: use and care
Machine wash at 30 degrees, tumble dry low or air dry. Do not iron and do not use fabric softener, both damage the waterproof layer. Keep away from open flames and heaters. Not suitable as a bed for puppies who chew fabric. Supervise your dog when the protector is first used.

Grip
Does it slide off? That is the first question.
It is the first thing every owner asks, because every throw they have tried ended up on the floor. The Barkstead underside is covered in silicone dots. They hold on the seat without straps, elastic or tucking in. Buyers name the dots as the reason it stays put. Try it on your sofa for 14 days and see.
Waterproof
A throw soaks it up. This stops it.
Fabric pulls liquid through itself and into the cushion below, which is why a towel or throw ends up soaked through to the sofa. Under the Barkstead quilting is a PU layer that liquid does not pass. Wet walk, muddy paws, an old dog's small patch: it sits on the protector, not in the foam.
Washing
One wash at 30, not an hour with a lint roller
Lift it off. Shake the hair off outside. Machine wash at 30, then tumble dry low or hang it up. No softener and no iron, so the waterproof layer keeps working. Buyers describe it as easy to clean, and one wash is a fair trade for daily straightening, lint rolling and spraying.
Questions about the sofa protector
Will it slide off the sofa?
Will it slide off the sofa?
The underside is covered in silicone dots that grip the seat. No straps, no tucking. Buyers say it stays put, and that is why many buy a second. If it moves more than you like on your sofa, return it within 14 days.
Is it really waterproof?
Is it really waterproof?
Yes. A PU layer under the quilted top stops liquid getting through to the cushion. Keep it that way by washing at 30, drying on low or in the air, and skipping softener and the iron. Buyers describe it as waterproof and easy to clean.
Does dog hair stick to it?
Does dog hair stick to it?
Hair lands on the protector instead of the sofa, which is the point. The top is quilted polyester, not fleece, so shake it off outside and wash it at 30. The hair goes down the drain rather than staying welded to the sofa cushion.
Does it crinkle or feel like plastic?
Does it crinkle or feel like plastic?
The top is diamond-quilted polyester with a hemmed edge. The waterproof PU layer sits underneath it, so you touch fabric, not film. If your dog does not like it once it arrives, you have 14 days to send it back.
What size and colour should I choose?
What size and colour should I choose?
Seat, 100 x 127 cm, for an armchair or one sofa seat. Runner, 75 x 180 cm, for the length of a two or three seat sofa seat. Colours are grey, light grey and chocolate. Measure your cushion first. Unsure? Email info@barkstead.com with the measurements.
Can I use it in the car or on the bed?
Can I use it in the car or on the bed?
It is a flat, quilted protector, so it goes wherever the dog lies: bed, dog bed, car boot. We sell it as a sofa protector and the sizes are cut for sofa seats. Two protectors save £9.95, which is how some owners cover the sofa and the bed.
